LEARN has appointed Carole Glenn, an expert on early childhood education and school accreditation, as the agency’s new Director of Young Children and Families (YCF).

Glenn is a longtime LEARN employee, a Regional Educational Service Center (RESC) that serves dozens of public school districts throughout southeastern Connecticut. She has been with the RESC for nearly 15 years, working for YCF as well as LEARN’s Regional Multicultural Magnet School in New London.

She is highly respected for work with public districts and agencies in preparing schools for accreditation. Glenn was instrumental in helping The Friendship School, LEARN’s prekindergarten and kindergarten inquiry-themed magnet school in Waterford, to earn coveted accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). She has served as a liaison to several schools in a similar capacity, as well as working with districts on strategies, recruitment, training, and more.

“Carole’s expertise in NAEYC accreditation and how best to support young children will continue to shape her new leadership role,” said LEARN Executive Director Dr. Eileen Howley. “Her long term experience with LEARN makes her uniquely qualified to assume this key leadership position and we are fortunate to have her.

The LEARN Board of Directors approved Glenn’s selection on Aug. 24. In her new position, she will lead a team of talented educators and coordinators in delivering high quality services and training to teachers throughout the region. She also oversees the Birth to Three program, which has provided critical services to thousands of regional families for more than 20 years.

“The work of the Department of Young Children and Families is the foundation on which all of LEARN’s departments can build,” Glenn said. “We’ve assembled an amazing team and we’re eager to partner with districts and organizations and help meet their needs.”

Glenn, of East Lyme, has facilitated numerous schools through the difficult accreditation process, helping prepare portfolios, support staff, and train teachers and administrators to meet rigorous standards.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this amazing leadership team and helping this vital department to grow,” Glenn said.
