LEARN Adds Math Systems Developer

LEARN Adds Math Systems Developer
Jennifer Pinto

LEARN has expanded its professional expertise by welcoming new Math Systems Developer Jennifer Pinto, an asset to students and teachers in the region.

Pinto began her work with LEARN’s Office of Teaching and Learning in September and is critical to the department’s goal of helping students in LEARN’s member districts achieve deeper math proficiency. As the Math Systems Developer, she will create systems that support high-quality and engaging math curriculum and instruction for LEARN’s seven interdistrict magnet schools.

Additionally, Pinto will be a valuable consultant to LEARN’s member districts in meeting the demands of mathematics curricula to prepare students to think critically, collaboratively, and solve problems with depth and understanding.

“It is my priority to get to know stakeholders in the LEARN region and create an environment where educators feel comfortable collaborating on initiatives that are important for our students and school communities,” said Pinto.  “As the Systems Developer for Mathematics, I look forward to providing positive educational experiences for both educators and students at the regional level.”

By using solid research and methods, Pinto will provide comprehensive models to guide educators and deliver platforms toward improved student performance.  Understanding the “human side” of math beyond procedures and facts, Pinto offers LEARN and its member districts expertise on the importance of communication and creativity in problem solving.

A resident of Groton, Pinto brings considerable experience and knowledge to LEARN. She began work as a mechanical engineer before realizing her passion for working with children. Her educational career began at Norwich Free Academy, where she excelled as a math teacher before a promotion to department head in 2013.

Pinto holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics as well as a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education from University of New Haven. She received her 6th year degree in educational leadership from Sacred Heart University. Her pursuits go beyond the classroom; Pinto strongly believes in educating the whole child and holds additional teacher certifications in yoga and mindfulness.

“We are so excited to add Jennifer’s wealth of experience to the Office of Teaching and Learning,” said Dr. Susan Iwanicki, LEARN’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “Her warmth and dedication, in addition to her extensive knowledge of mathematics and instruction, make her the perfect addition to our department.”
