GROTON – U.S. News & World Report once again ranked Marine Science Magnet High School (MSMHS) as one of the best public high schools in Connecticut.

The magazine released its annual rankings of all high schools across the nation this week. The highly anticipated list measures factors such as college readiness for graduates, curriculum, and graduation rates.

MSMHS performed exceptionally high in many of the categories which U.S. News & World Report uses to measure high schools. Overall, the school landed as 10th best public high school in Connecticut and the best high school in the southeastern region of the state for 2020. MSMHS also ranked as the 2nd best overall magnet high school in Connecticut.

“LEARN’s Marine Science Magnet High School is a special community of intensely committed educators, students, and families,” said LEARN Associate Executive Director Dr. Ryan Donlon. “It is an honor to have the hard work and partnership of these three groups recognized by U.S. News & World Report.”

Rankings for 2020 are based on data for the 2018-19 school year. MSMHS tied for best in the state for graduation rate, with 100 percent of the Class of 2019 graduating. The school was ranked 5th in Connecticut for college readiness and 20th for its breadth of college curriculum. Click here to see MSMHS’s full U.S. News profile.

MSMHS’s ranking continues a legacy of excellence. Since the school’s inception in 2012, MSMHS has regularly appeared near the top of U.S. News’s rankings of Connecticut high schools. In 2018, MSMHS achieved Gold Medal status for the first time, an honor reserved for schools that exhibit the highest standards in educational achievement and performance.

“The work ethic and grit shown by our students demonstrates that they truly live our core belief that effort creates ability by showing up and working hard every day,” said Colleen Hardison, MSMHS assistant principal. “I am consistently impressed with the dedication of MSMHS teachers to prepare students and help them to reach their full potential.”
