LEARN Announces Jennifer Dowker as Assistant Principal at The Friendship School

LEARN, the regional educational service center for southeastern Connecticut, has hired Jennifer Dowker as Assistant Principal of The Friendship School.

The Friendship School is an early childhood magnet school, serving pre-kindergarten and kindergarten aged students from Connecticut. The school is an inquiry-based magnet school, accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). It is located in Waterford, CT.

LEARN sought to hire an assistant principal to work in partnership with the newly appointed principal of the school. Ms. Dowker will supervise and evaluate staff, maintain high expectations and standards for student learning and behavior, develop and implement school goals, and lead staff professional learning. She is the perfect partner in this important work.

Prior to coming to LEARN in an assistant principal role, Dowker served as an elementary school teacher in New London where she also directed the K-5 summer school program. In addition, she was Adjunct Professor of Education at Connecticut College. In 2017, Dowker was the New London Public Schools Teacher of the Year and the Magnet Schools of America Teacher of the Year, Region 1, Northeast United States.

Dowker has a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from Cornell College, a Master of Science degree in Education from Walden University, and a 6th Year degree in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University. 

Dowker begins in her new position later this month, August 2021.
